My mother said I was born to be a teacher, and I started talking about it as my “future” when I was only five years old. Here I am in my thirtieth year in eighth grade. Well my thirty-first year if you count the year I was a Jr. High student... which was quite a while ago! I guess my mom was right.
In addition to babysitting, summer camp counseling and dance instructing, I earned my teaching license by receiving a Bachelor in Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where I double majored in Elementary and Middle School Education with endorsements in Language Arts and Social Studies. I then received a Master’s of Special Education from the University of Colorado at Denver. My professional
development has continued to grow since, including the acquisition of NBPTS - National Board For Professional Teaching Standards Certification .
In addition to gardening, backpacking, boating, camping, hiking, reading, and photography, dancing is a passion of mine. I have been the Artistic Director and Sponsor of DANCE (Diversity and New Cultural Education) Club at BHMS for twenty-five years; this is the twenty-sixth year. I love working with the No Place For Hate Coalition of which I am a Co-sponsor with Ms. McCann. Yay!
Four years ago I accomplished my goal of visiting my 50th State, Alaska. I especially enjoyed making it to the Pelindaba Lavendar Farm on San Juan Island. It was an incredible experience and a wonderful thirty-three day journey.
Last summer I spent time creating a Pandemic Vegetable garden and tending to annual flower pots, reading books and cleaning and organizing parts of my home, then rescued a 4 year old dog named Ziggy. This past summer I celebrated my son's gradutation from Broomfield High School worked in my gardens, read more books and spent time with some family and friends. My son, Colt, is beginning his Freshman year at Colorado Western University in Gunnison, CO.
I have a lovely family who supports me greatly as I strive to be the best teacher I can be. I look forward to helping each and every one of my students grow into a caring and responsible young adult.
